OCTOBER IS CRIME PREVENTION MONTH!

Neighborhood thefts and vandalism are often crimes of opportunity.
'Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design' principles are based on anticipating the thought processes of a potential offender and creating an environment that discourages follow-through.

Here is a CPTED Checklist for the exterior of your home:
  • Shrubbery / bushes / trees are kept trimmed so there is no place for someone to hide (3’ down and 7’ up)
  • Every outside door has a bright, working light to illuminate visitors
  • No dark areas around house, garage, or yard at night that would hide prowlers
  • Plant inhospitable landscaping to discourage prowlers near windows (such as thorn bushes)
  • Gravel instead of mulch below windows creates more noise when stepped on
  • Outdoor lights are on in the evening whether someone is home or not
  • House number is clearly displayed so police and other emergency vehicles can find the house quickly
  • Property is clean and clear of debris
  • Even if you are working in the yard, keep garage doors shut as much as possible
  • Do not leave items on porch, such as bicycles or strollers
And note: If you have an exterior camera, register with KCPD's WatchKC Program

SAVE THE DATE: FALL 2019 LEAF & BRUSH PICKUP

KC Water, on behalf of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, conducts scheduled curbside leaf and brush collections each spring and fall.

Residents who live in CENTRAL Kansas City (from the Missouri River, south to 63rd Street) will receive curbside leaf and brush collection from December 2nd – December 6th.
