Midtown KC Now Luncheon: Historic Preservation

Join us for our first luncheon of 2026! Our topic is Historic Preservation.
Our speakers will be Ethan Starr, new Executive Director of Historic Kansas City, and Tyler Asby from Exact Architects, who have completed many historic renovations in Midtown.

Ethan Starr will address the role of historic preservation as an economic engine for the region, specifically focusing on how preservation tools have contributed to the revitalization of Midtown in recent decades. In addition, he will cite examples of how listing on the National Register of Historic Places unlocks impactful incentives, such as Historic Tax Credit programs, for undertaking adaptive reuse projects. The presentation will illustrate the opportunities for greater utilization of these incentive mechanisms.
