Main Street Community Improvement District

The Main Street Community Improvement District (MSCID) enhances the quality of life of Kansas City’s Main Street Corridor through addressing concerns of general welfare and common good by implementing a ‘clean and safe’ program.

As the concierge of the Main Street district, the CID:

Works with the Prosecutor’s Office and the Kansas City Police Department to keep nuisance offenders off the streets

Maintains streetscape improvements

Helps the community when needed

Removes graffiti quickly, often before the morning rush hour

Assists with snow removal from public walkways

N

Keeps the public right-of-ways clean of litter and debris

Area Maintenance Attendants

Area Maintenance Attendants provide daily litter removal, landscape maintenance, snow shoveling from crosswalk and handicap areas, graffiti and poster removal, and visitor and customer assistance.

Area Awareness Officers

Area Awareness Officers provide on the street monitoring, reporting, assisting with medical emergencies, detouring illegal or suspicious behavior, and serving as on the street assistance for visitors, customers and residents of the area.

Midtown KC Now manages the Main Street Community Improvement District. The CID continues to be a model for marshalling new resources to improve the image and quality of life of districts in Midtown.

2020 saw some new responsibilities for the CID with the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the normal “clean and safe” activities, staff disinfected common public areas, worked through emergency closure orders and assisted during times of protest and unrest. Our CID staff went above and beyond to help Midtown during difficult times.

Main Street District Facade Grant Program

The Main Street District Facade Grant Program is a building facade improvement program designed to provide rehabilitation grants to owners of commercial property and businesses within the boundaries of the Main Street Community Improvement District (MSCID).

About MSCID

The Main Street Community Improvement District is a petition driven ‘clean and safe’ initiative that was approved by the property owners within its boundary and funded through a combined property assessment of .05574 per square foot of parcel and .002369 of assessed value.

The Main Street Community Improvement District is a 501c4 and up for renewal in 2029. The Main Street Community Improvement District is operated by Midtown KC Now.
